It’s that time of the year to start thinking about the spring flowers which will be in season throughout September-November to add to our beautiful bouquets and flower arrangements. We love using seasonal flowers where possible however availability does change year on year, so you may find some of the below are available slightly before or after springtime in Perth.
So here are some of our favourite seasonal spring flowers:
Pin Cushion Protea

Pin Cushion Protea aka leucospermum is a flower that we love working with in the ATOC studio. They are as cute as a button and are super durable with a long vase life.
The flowers have a spherical shape with numerous long, thin petals radiating outwards, resembling a pincushion. They usually come in bright red/yellow/orange shades and grow excellently in WA soil. Here at ATOC we like to arrange them with Waratah in bouquets and with some other similar wildflowers in wreaths.
They are typically only available for a couple of weeks in spring, so get in quick to enjoy them in their prime.
Fun fact: Did you know that pincushions are not only beautiful but also beneficial to pollinators? Their unique shape makes them irresistible to bees and butterflies, helping to support local ecosystems.
Waratah

The Waratah flower is an iconic bloom and is a favourite of ours. We only see them in spring in Perth. In fact they have a very short season so they are always in demand when available.
They are long lasting, vibrant and great focal flowers for arranging.
With its vibrant crimson red hue and striking appearance, the Waratah is a symbol of resilience and strength. Plus they can also come in some shades of paler pink, white and cream.
Fun fact: Waratahs are notoriously difficult to cultivate, which is part of what makes them so special and sought-after. Despite their challenging nature, skilled florists like ours are able to bring the beauty of the Waratah into your home.
Ranunculus

Ranunculus typically start blooming in spring, they are super cute and popular.
Known as ‘Nature’s Paper Lantern’, with their delicate, layered petals resembling paper lanterns. These exquisite blooms add a touch of romance and elegance to any floral arrangement.
We love them as they suit our head on head garden-y style arrangements and come in heaps of gorgeous colours (spot the pretty orange ranuncs in the above bouquet). They are bulb flowers like tulips/iris/hyacinth etc with a succulent stem.
Fun fact: Despite their delicate appearance, Ranunculus flowers are surprisingly hardy. They can symbolise both charm and radiant beauty.
Chincherinchee (or Chin Chins as we like to call them)
Discover the enduring charm of Chincherinchee, a stunning flower known for its delicate white blooms and elegant form. We love when these beauties come available during spring.
These versatile flowers add a touch of sophistication to any flower delivery and have remarkable vase life. In fact they last for AGES!! Plus they also come in different heights and sizes.
Perfect for weddings, home décor, or as a thoughtful gift, Chincherinchee is a timeless choice.
Fun fact: Chincherinchee, or Ornithogalum thyrsoides, is a member of the lily family. Its name is derived from the Dutch words “Chinese” and “chintz,” reflecting its exotic appearance.Â
